video hyperlinking article + thoughts

Viewmagazine.tv a hybrid video text magazine recently wrote an article on Hyperlinking video. The article focuses on online video news coverage and the concept of “drilling” into video segments. For example when presented with a news piece or video compilation, on-screen hyperlinks would allow you to click on sub-segments and view the source video for that portion of compilation.

“It’s a boon for broadcasters making good of all that waste on the floor, provides greater transparency and gives more control over to the user.”

This parallels the work we are doing with metavid in making source video footage available. We are currently working on wiki integrations which will make these edit sequences transparent and maluable.

advanced search online

Advanced search is now available in html mode. Simply click on adv search and then add in parameters such as date or person combine them for specific queries.

Metavid Moving Forward ;)

We have been working on getting more content in the archive and easily accessible. We recently acquired a new 2U dual core Xeon transcoding server with the resources from the sunlight min-grant…. This new computer should make transcoding around 3x faster. This should enable quicker posting of archival content. Also we are still looking for a way to put this capture box in the capital. This will enable live and instantly archived streams of house and senate proceedings.

Work on metavid continues to support not only viewing these proccedings but enabling their reuse in digital dialog.
